Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemorative Plate

This collectible depicts a scene from a re-enactment held in Occoquan on July 31, 2010, kicking off the town's Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration.  On July 4, 1860, Abraham Lincoln supporters erected a pole in Occoquan with pennants bearing the names of Lincoln and his running mate, Hannibal Hamlin.  A little more than three weeks later, on July 27, 1860, members of the Prince William Militia entered Occoquan and chopped down the pole to the cheers of southern sympathizers and the jeers of Lincoln supporters.  In the subsequent presidential election of November 1860, Lincoln received 55 votes in Prince William County--all of which came from Occoquan.  Plate photograph courtesy of Boyd Alexander.  $25 + tax, shipping, handling, and insurance.  Detailed narrative on back of plate.  Sepia tone photograph of re-enactment on front.
